Description
Due to popular demand, I am listing the other pair of personally worn glasses, worn by Elvis Presley at his June 11, 1972 concert at Madison Square Garden. Dennis Roberts was a personal friend of my family's, my grandmother  hounded him for years about this piece and finally he gave in and shortly before his untimely death sold the piece to her for my grandfather as a surprise, my grandfather has now passed, and my grandmother has downsized into a smaller condo from a large home. I will do my very best to describe the piece to the best of my ability. In the frame is one of four pairs of Nautic glasses made for Elvis by Dennis Roberts to be worn at the 1972 Madison Square Garden Concert. What I am typing is primarily from the 5 Certifications that accompany this piece. The glasses were made in Germany by Nuffer Optic under trade name NEO style eyewear. Model Nautic. The frames are in Gold with Satin finish 140mm temples, eyesize 66mm and bridge size 18mm. The frame color is gelb. The lenses consist of Elvis Presley's distance prescription in the Elvis Brown Gradient color that were one of his favorites. The NEO style of Germany discontinued the frames in 1989. The TCB lightning bolts are from the original molds designed by Dennis Roberts (others on eBay not from Dennis are reproductions) The emblems were cast in 14K yellow gold and contain jewelers hallmark to denote authenticity. Special note: the temples have three holes into them horizontally confirming the "Madison Square Garden" design. In the COA from Dennis is states reproduction of this was prohibited, but unfortunately Dennis is not here anymore to enforce the integrity of his designs. In the frame are the original glasses with the arms removed framed against a light grey background with an original ticket from the concert, a plaque designating that these were personally worn at the concert, and 5 certificates of authenticity one from Dennis Roberts. The other certification include: Lamar Fike friend of Elvis from 1954 until his death, he was present at the concert and certified that this was indeed one of four pairs of glasses worn by Elvis at the Madison Square Garden Concert, dated February 25, 2002. The next certification was from Sonny West who knew Elvis from 1960 until his death, a personal friend and body guard, he too attests to Elvis wearing the glasses. Next, is Charlie Hodge, Army friend of Elvis, he personally performed with Elvis at this concert, playing guitar and harmony with Elvis, also dated February of 2002, and attested to Elvis wearing the glasses.. The final certification of this comes from Ed Bonja, photographer to Elvis, and known for all of his classics shots of Elvis, also certified the glasses. I had interest from two different memorabilia auction stating they would put a healthy reserve on the piece and considered contacting the Hard Rock, after careful consideration my grandmother felt that they would be offered to a world wide market on eBay and that someone who was truly a Grand Collector would want these glasses for their collection. Note: I have been told by many who followed Dennis' auctions and sales, that this pair of glasses was listed at 100K... Framed in a black matt frame with all certificates, plate, glasses, measures 40" x 30". I have offered the other pair that were not made by Dennis, but were Elvis' sunglasses brought for repair to Dennis, and thus the relationship between the two continued until his death, I appreciate the comments about price and so forth, remember this is my grandmother's goods, and she paid handsomely for this piece, two auction co's in LA felt it would fetch 20-30K, I am starting the piece much lower, but please if you feel it is high, it is due to the rarity of this piece and as they say in the auction business, "Where are you going to get one" Only 4 pairs were made, I do not have the privilige to know the whereabout of them or any other items that Dennis may have had for clients, I did not personally know him, so out of consideration please don't ask because I cannot be of help, I am sorry. Thank you and have a super day. If you are the winning bidder of this pair of glasses, I would like a 20 % deposit withing three days of the winning bid and the balance may be paid within two weeks, thanks. Shipping listed is an estimate for Priority Shipping, I would be inclined to ship this way as Federal Express will not insure for full value, but the USPS will, also if interested internationally, please ask for a quote. Note: I do not have the original two screws to reassemble the glasses and I thank all for their input, my grandmother purchased these from Dennis prior to his death and I am going strictly from the 5 seperate certifications that accompany the piece. thanks.
